Ants can walk on the back wall now
Ants used to only hold on to the edges of a tunnel, now they can cross the dirt behind it too.
A compost heap to keep the brood warm
Leaves fall in autumn now, and if the ants pile them up wet the heap rots and gives off enough heat to matter in winter.
Saves load right away now
A save used to be a recording of everything you did, and loading it meant playing the whole game again.
Every sound is made by code
The game has 73 sounds and none of them are recordings.
Getting a colony through winter
Colonies played by a script were dying every winter and then starving in spring, and it was three different problems.
Why the haulers got stuck
Ants carrying dirt out of the nest were freezing halfway up the shaft, because the shaft itself counted as being outside.
From colored squares to a sketchbook
The world used to be drawn as one colored square per cell, now a shader paints it as an inked watercolor.
